Batting Cages

Netted outdoor cages with pitching machines set up down the lanes, floored end to end in turf. Cage floors get the most concentrated wear of any sports surface — every foot lands in the same box, every machine sits in the same spot, several hundred times a session.

That means the specification is different from a lawn: a shorter, denser pile that will not shear under a cleat, laid on a base compacted hard enough that the batter's box does not dish out. The runs are seamed down the lane rather than across it, so no seam sits where a foot plants.
