Turf Built to
City of Conroe Standards
Conroe is an incorporated city and the county seat, which it took from Montgomery in 1889. That matters for your yard, because the city writes its own rules rather than deferring to the county. Clearing and tree preservation submissions go to the Engineering Department, and permits and inspections run through the city's online portal.
It is also growing fast. The Census Bureau named Conroe the fastest growing large city in the country between 2015 and 2016, and the population went from about 56,200 in 2010 to roughly 115,000 by mid 2024. We have worked on Greater Houston yards for more than 30 years. The visit and the written quote are free.

Settled Lots by the Courthouse New Ground on the Edge
Conroe has two kinds of yard. Around the historic downtown on North Main, and out along Loop 336, sit neighborhoods built from the 1960s through the 1980s: mature trees, narrow side yards, ground that settled long ago. Out on the Highway 105 and FM 1314 corridors, and in the newer master planned sections, the lots are fresh. They were scraped, filled and rolled by heavy equipment, then covered with thin builder sod. Each kind fails in its own way.
City drainage rules shape both. Conroe writes its own drainage rules, keeps major creeks in an open natural condition, and gives developers detention credit for preserved tree canopy at 1.5 cubic feet for every square foot kept, up to a third of the required detention on larger sites. The city plainly counts permeable ground as worth something. So we build a base that keeps taking water, and we hold your existing grade wherever the job allows.
Permits come from the city
Unincorporated county rules do not govern a lot inside the city limits. Conroe has its own building, clearing and tree preservation review, submitted through the Engineering Department and the city's online permit portal. We check what your scope actually triggers before work starts.
Old shade, new mud
On an older lot the problem is usually shade and root competition under a big oak or pine. On a new lot it is compacted fill that holds water for days after a storm. The base spec is different for each, and we set it after walking the property.
A green that suits a small yard
Newer subdivisions here trade lot size for house size, which leaves a back yard that has to do everything at once. A putting green shaped to the space, with the fringe and contours cut to fit, uses that ground better than a strip of struggling sod.

Frequently asked,
clearly answered.
Do I need a City of Conroe permit for an artificial turf project?
Sometimes, and it depends on scope. The city reviews building work, clearing and tree preservation, with submissions going to the Engineering Department through its online portal. A flat turf replacement at existing grade is a smaller scope than regrading a lot or taking out trees. We confirm what your job triggers with the city before we start.
Does the Conroe tree ordinance limit where turf can go?
It can. The city protects tree canopy and even credits preserved canopy against required detention volume, at 1.5 cubic feet of detention for every square foot kept. Anything that harms a protected tree or its root system is a problem. We keep the excavation clear of critical root zones, or design a shallower detail for those areas.
My address says Conroe but I am not sure I am inside the city. Does it matter?
Yes. Conroe has an extraterritorial jurisdiction that reaches well past the city limits, and plenty of Conroe addresses sit in unincorporated Montgomery County or inside a neighboring city's ETJ instead. City rules, county rules and HOA rules are not the same thing. We confirm which one governs your lot before we quote.
How long does an installation take?
Most residential projects are complete in 2–4 days. Larger commercial installs typically take 1–2 weeks.
What is included in your warranty?
Every install carries the manufacturer's product warranty against fading and wear, plus our own workmanship coverage on seams, edging, and base. Full terms come with your proposal.
Is artificial turf safe for pets and children?
Yes. We install lead-free, non-toxic turf over a permeable base that drains quickly, and we can add an antimicrobial infill for pet areas to keep odours down.
How much maintenance does artificial turf need?
A rinse now and then and an occasional cross-brush of the high-traffic paths. No mowing, no watering, no fertiliser, and no seasonal brown-out.
Will the turf get too hot in the Houston sun?
Turf runs warmer than a natural lawn in direct sun. We specify cooler yarn and lighter infill where a yard gets full afternoon exposure, and a quick rinse brings the surface temperature straight back down.
How much does an artificial turf installation cost?
Pricing depends on square footage, the turf you choose, and how much prep the site needs. We measure on site and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.
