Memorial is not one city. The name covers a stretch of west Houston across ZIP codes 77024, 77055, and 77079. Part of it sits inside the City of Houston and part of it sits inside six separately incorporated villages. That matters before you break ground, because the rules for your yard depend on which side of a village line your lot falls on.

Canopy, Clay, and the Reservoir Pools
Memorial’s southern edge is Buffalo Bayou and its western edge is Barker Reservoir. During Harvey the Corps of Engineers made large controlled releases into Buffalo Bayou, and homes here that had never taken water flooded several feet deep. FEMA has drafted updated Harris County flood maps that widen the mapped floodplain, so check your own address.
Above ground, the problem is trees. Memorial lots run from about 8,000 square feet to more than two acres, and the mature canopy that makes the neighborhood is the same thing that starves a lawn. Underneath sits Beaumont Formation clay, slowly permeable and prone to shrinking and swelling. Shade thins the grass, clay holds the water, and roots take what is left. Turf removes the growing problem, but only if the base under it is built to move water.

Is my Memorial home inside the Addicks or Barker flood pool?
It might be, and it is worth checking before you plan any yard work. Thousands of private properties were built inside the design pools of the two reservoirs, and many of them flooded during Harvey. Barker forms the western edge of the Memorial area. Look your address up with Harris County Flood Control and against the latest FEMA draft maps.
Which city actually reviews work on my Memorial lot?
It depends on your address. The Memorial area is split between the City of Houston and six separately incorporated villages: Spring Valley Village, Piney Point Village, Bunker Hill Village, Hedwig Village, Hilshire Village, and Hunters Creek Village. Each village keeps its own council and permit office with its own tree and drainage rules. Houston-side lots run on Chapter 42 plus your recorded deed restrictions.
Can turf go in under Memorial’s old trees without hurting them?
Usually, with less digging than a standard install. We reduce base depth inside the root zone and work around surface roots instead of cutting through them. Several of the villages regulate this directly, so a tree survey may be required. We look at every tree on the free visit, and if a spot cannot be built without real root damage, we say so.
How long does an installation take?
Most residential projects are complete in 2–4 days. Larger commercial installs typically take 1–2 weeks.
What is included in your warranty?
Every install carries the manufacturer's product warranty against fading and wear, plus our own workmanship coverage on seams, edging, and base. Full terms come with your proposal.
Is artificial turf safe for pets and children?
Yes. We install lead-free, non-toxic turf over a permeable base that drains quickly, and we can add an antimicrobial infill for pet areas to keep odours down.
How much maintenance does artificial turf need?
A rinse now and then and an occasional cross-brush of the high-traffic paths. No mowing, no watering, no fertiliser, and no seasonal brown-out.
Will the turf get too hot in the Houston sun?
Turf runs warmer than a natural lawn in direct sun. We specify cooler yarn and lighter infill where a yard gets full afternoon exposure, and a quick rinse brings the surface temperature straight back down.
