Commercial Amenity Turf Installation in Houston, TX

Courtyards, event lawns, pool decks and rooftop amenity spaces have to look ready every day of the year. Houston heat, gumbo clay and 50 inches of rain wear a natural lawn down long before that. We install commercial artificial turf that drains a Gulf Coast downpour, holds its green through drought restrictions, and takes the traffic your property actually gets.

Commercial Amenity Turf Installation in Houston, TX

An amenity space has to show well every day, because prospects tour on the worst weather day of the month and residents live with it the rest of the time. Natural sod in Houston does not cooperate. It browns out in the summer heat, goes soft and muddy in a shaded courtyard between two buildings, and wears to bare gumbo clay along every path people and dogs actually walk. Meanwhile the irrigation runs, the mow contract bills every month, and a drought restriction can shut the water off in the middle of leasing season.

We solve the ground first. We walk the property, measure, and read where water runs during a downpour, then build an engineered aggregate base over the clay that falls toward your area drains. The turf goes over that, seamed and anchored to every edge, curb and hardscape line, with the pile and infill matched to the traffic each space takes. On a rooftop we work over the roofing manufacturer's approved protection and drainage layers with nothing fastened through the membrane, and we coordinate with your structural engineer and roofer before the scope is written. We phase around occupied buildings and your event calendar.

What Can I Expect From Commercial Amenity Turf in Houston?

Straight down through the turf and out to your storm drains. Houston takes roughly 50 inches of rain a year and it arrives in hard bursts, not slow soaking. Our base is not soil, it is a compacted aggregate section built to take that volume and move it, which matters here because gumbo clay percolates very slowly and holds water on the surface. The turf backing is perforated, the section is graded to fall toward your area drains, and we add sub-surface drain lines tied into the existing storm system where the site calls for it. The space is usable again minutes after the rain stops.

Usually an architectural review package, and we help you put it together. Houston is the largest city in the country with no conventional zoning, so amenity standards here come from deed restrictions, POA and HOA covenants and the ownership group's own rules rather than a zoning code. One point most turf pages get wrong: Texas Property Code section 202.007 protects drought-resistant and water-conserving natural turf, not artificial turf, so an association can still turn a request down. Plan for the review. We supply the product spec sheets, the base and drainage detail, and the section drawing your board or committee needs to sign off.

Much lighter than sod, but it is not nothing. Plan on a routine your grounds crew can run: blow or sweep off leaves and litter, cross-brush the high-traffic lanes so the fibers stand back up, and rinse the pet areas down with a hose. In pet relief areas an antimicrobial infill plus that regular rinse is what keeps ammonia odor under control in Houston humidity. There is no mowing, no edging, no fertilizer and no irrigation to run, so the same crew that used to cut the lawn can take the turf on instead.

Yes, when the assembly follows the roofing manufacturer's rules and nothing penetrates the membrane. Rooftop turf sits over a protection layer and a drainage mat on top of the waterproofing, and it is held by perimeter attachment, ballast or an adhered system instead of fasteners driven through the roof. The roofing manufacturer, the warranty holder and your roofer set those details, so we bring them into the conversation before the scope is written. Your structural engineer confirms the deck can carry the added weight, because turf, infill and soaked-in rainwater all add load. On a roof we will not guess at any of that.

A Simple Process
From Start to Finish.

Our proven installation process ensures every project is completed efficiently with exceptional attention to detail.

We strip the existing lawn and excavate down to a clean, stable sub-grade. Old roots, thatch, and loose topsoil all come out, because anything organic left behind will settle later and telegraph through the finished turf.

Flexible poly board is staked around the entire perimeter to lock the base in place. It holds your shape through curves and radii, keeps the aggregate from migrating into beds, and gives the turf a clean edge to be fastened to.

The first base layer goes down and is graded for drainage. This is the load-bearing course that carries foot traffic and keeps the surface from rutting, and it is where the finished contours of the yard are established.

A second, finer layer is screeded over the first to true the surface. Two layers instead of one is what separates a lawn that stays flat for years from one that dips and waves after the first wet season.

The base is plate-compacted to spec, then the turf is rolled out, allowed to relax, and cut to the yard. Seams are aligned to a single blade direction and joined so they disappear, and the turf is nailed off along every edge.

Silica infill is spread and worked in with a power broom, lifting every blade upright as it goes. Infill is what gives the lawn its ballast, its underfoot feel, and its ability to stand back up after traffic.

We do a final groom, clear the site, and walk the finished yard with you edge to edge. What you are left with is a lawn that looks cut every day of the year, with no mowing, watering, or seasonal brown-out.

Commercial Turf Cost

How Much Does Commercial Turf Cost Per Square Foot?

Turf we install in Houston generally runs between $9 and $15 per square foot, and a commercial amenity project is priced the same way, by the square foot, after we walk the site. Where your courtyard, deck or event lawn lands comes down to the base and drainage work the ground needs, the grade of turf the traffic calls for, and how much of the job has to happen around residents and guests. Rooftop work is scoped on its own because of the extra layers and coordination it takes.

There is no flat rate on a commercial job, and we will not quote one over the phone. We walk the site, measure, check where the water goes, and hand you a written scope you can take to ownership for free. Weigh the number against what the space costs you now, because the irrigation, the mow and edge contract, and the resod after every event all come off the budget once turf goes in.

What moves the number

  • The turf you specify, from a value blade to a heavy-traffic amenity grass
  • How much old sod and gumbo clay we strip out and haul off
  • The base depth and drainage work the site needs to clear a downpour
  • Rooftop layers, structural coordination, and phasing around occupied buildings

How Long It Lasts

How Long Does Commercial Amenity Turf Last?

Commercial amenity turf holds up for many years of heavy daily use, and the traffic level plus the base underneath decide how many. The yarn is UV stabilized, so the Gulf Coast sun does not bleach it the way it browns and thins a natural lawn every summer. The base is what carries the load, which is why a properly compacted, free-draining section is the difference between a surface that still sits flat years in and one that ruts along the walking lanes. Every product we install is backed by the manufacturer's warranty.

  • Built for daily foot traffic in courtyards, on decks and on event lawns
  • UV-stabilized yarn that holds its color in the Gulf Coast sun
  • A compacted, free-draining base that keeps the surface flat under load
  • Backed by the manufacturer's warranty
Surface Heat

Will Amenity Turf Get Too Hot in the Houston Sun?

Turf in full sun does run hotter than the air around it, and any honest installer will tell you so. It is manageable, and it is worth planning for on a property where residents go barefoot or walk dogs. Lighter-colored and heat-reflective yarns run cooler, cooling infills help, shade does more than either one, and a few minutes with a hose drops the surface temperature before a busy afternoon or a scheduled event.

  • Pick the Right Yarn

Lighter-colored and heat-reflective yarns and cooling infills run cooler than a dark, dense blade. We spec that into the areas that sit in full sun all afternoon.

  • Plan Around Shade

Shade sails, structures and the trees you already have do more for surface temperature than any product choice. We lay the amenity areas out around where the shade actually falls.

  • Rinse Before Peak Use

A short hose-down drops the surface temperature quickly. Adding it to the grounds routine before an event or a hot afternoon is simple and it works.

FAQ

Frequently asked,
clearly answered.

How long does an installation take?

Most residential projects are complete in 2–4 days. Larger commercial installs typically take 1–2 weeks.

What is included in your warranty?

Every install carries the manufacturer's product warranty against fading and wear, plus our own workmanship coverage on seams, edging, and base. Full terms come with your proposal.

Is artificial turf safe for pets and children?

Yes. We install lead-free, non-toxic turf over a permeable base that drains quickly, and we can add an antimicrobial infill for pet areas to keep odours down.

How much maintenance does artificial turf need?

A rinse now and then and an occasional cross-brush of the high-traffic paths. No mowing, no watering, no fertiliser, and no seasonal brown-out.

Will the turf get too hot in the Houston sun?

Turf runs warmer than a natural lawn in direct sun. We specify cooler yarn and lighter infill where a yard gets full afternoon exposure, and a quick rinse brings the surface temperature straight back down.

How much does an artificial turf installation cost?

Pricing depends on square footage, the turf you choose, and how much prep the site needs. We measure on site and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.
