Most Houston training facilities sit in converted warehouse or flex space, and the floor is a bare concrete slab. That slab is fine under racks and platforms, but it is the wrong surface for sled pushes, sprints, bear crawls and agility drills. Houston makes the problem bigger than it is elsewhere. From May through September the heat and Gulf humidity push almost every outdoor session inside, so your indoor floor takes close to twelve months of load instead of eight.
We build the lane around the slab you already have. We measure the room, check the slab for flatness and moisture, and plan where seams and transitions fall so no seam sits in the middle of a sled lane. Then the turf goes down, cut to your lane widths, with inlaid distance marks or a logo if you want them. We can work after hours or in phases so your class schedule keeps running. Our shop is on Campbell Road in Spring Branch, off I-10 inside Beltway 8, the same northwest Houston corridor most converted-warehouse gyms occupy.
What Can I Expect From Gym & Athletic Turf in Houston?
Gym turf cleans up on a routine, not with a deep scrub. Sweep or vacuum the loose debris, then brush the pile back up where traffic has flattened it. For sweat, wipe or lightly mist the high-contact areas with a cleaner your turf supplier approves and let it dry. Most facilities do a quick pass daily and a full brush and clean once a week. Ask us which cleaner and which brush your specific turf is rated for, because the wrong chemical can damage the fibers or the backing.
Usually yes, and that is how most indoor gym turf goes in. The slab has to be flat, clean and dry first. We look it over for high spots, cracks, old coatings and old adhesive, then grind or patch what needs it and use a self-leveling compound where the floor dips. Moisture rising through a slab on grade is the one thing that ruins a glue-down job in Houston. The industry tests for it are ASTM F1869 and ASTM F2170, and any installer you hire should tell you how they plan to handle slab moisture before adhesive touches your floor.
Clean training shoes are fine, and that is what most of your members already wear. Turf shoes and molded trainers are fine too. Metal cleats are the one thing to keep off an indoor surface, and screw-in cleats should stay off it as well, because the points cut fibers and work seams open over time. If you train baseball or football athletes, post a no-metal-cleats rule at the door and put a mat or a shoe-change bench at the entry so parking-lot grit does not get ground into the pile.
Indoors it sits close to room temperature, because direct sunlight is what makes artificial grass hot. With a roof over it and no sun on the fibers, the surface tracks the air in the room instead of baking the way an outdoor lawn does. Watch the spots that do catch sun: under skylights, inside a roll-up door you leave open, and along a window wall. Those areas will warm up. Fans and airflow help there, and they also help the room dry out after a humid Houston morning.

Our proven installation process ensures every project is completed efficiently with exceptional attention to detail.
We strip the existing lawn and excavate down to a clean, stable sub-grade. Old roots, thatch, and loose topsoil all come out, because anything organic left behind will settle later and telegraph through the finished turf.
Flexible poly board is staked around the entire perimeter to lock the base in place. It holds your shape through curves and radii, keeps the aggregate from migrating into beds, and gives the turf a clean edge to be fastened to.
The first base layer goes down and is graded for drainage. This is the load-bearing course that carries foot traffic and keeps the surface from rutting, and it is where the finished contours of the yard are established.
A second, finer layer is screeded over the first to true the surface. Two layers instead of one is what separates a lawn that stays flat for years from one that dips and waves after the first wet season.
The base is plate-compacted to spec, then the turf is rolled out, allowed to relax, and cut to the yard. Seams are aligned to a single blade direction and joined so they disappear, and the turf is nailed off along every edge.
Silica infill is spread and worked in with a power broom, lifting every blade upright as it goes. Infill is what gives the lawn its ballast, its underfoot feel, and its ability to stand back up after traffic.
We do a final groom, clear the site, and walk the finished yard with you edge to edge. What you are left with is a lawn that looks cut every day of the year, with no mowing, watering, or seasonal brown-out.

How Much Does Gym Turf Cost Per Square Foot?
We do not publish a flat per square foot price for gym turf, because indoor work is priced by what goes under the turf, not just the grass on top. A sled lane glued to a clean slab, a padded drop zone and a batting cage tunnel all price differently, even in the same building. We measure the room, look at the slab, and put the real number in writing before any work starts.
Athletic turf is a different spec from the landscape lines listed above, so we quote it separately. Bring us the room size, the ceiling height and what you plan to run on it, and we will walk the slab with you.

Gym turf lasts for years of daily use when the product is matched to the work the room does. Sled lanes and sprint lanes wear first, because the same few feet take every single rep.
