Yes, on an outdoor field, with one rule: no metal. Molded studs and turf shoes are what synthetic fields are built for, and they are what most youth and adult leagues already wear. Metal cleats and screw-in studs cut fibers and can work a seam open, so most turf fields ban them outright. Indoors the rule is stricter. Keep all cleats off an indoor training floor and ask for flat trainers or turf shoes instead. Post the rule at the gate, put a shoe bench at the entry, and you will save yourself repair visits.

Three parts: fibers, backing and infill. The green blades are plastic yarn tufted into a backing that is punched with holes so water drains straight through instead of sitting on top. Between the blades sits infill, a loose granular material that holds the fibers upright, adds weight, and gives the surface its footing and its cushion. Infill can be crumb rubber, coated sand, cork or an organic blend, and the choice changes how the surface feels, how the ball behaves and how hot it runs in the sun. Some indoor gym turf uses little or no infill at all, so nothing sheds onto the rest of your floor.

Inlaid lines are cut into the carpet and seamed in with colored line yarn, so they are permanent and sharp and never need repainting, but you are locked into that layout. Painted lines use turf paint, so they come off and go back down when your seasons change. Most real multi-sport fields do both: inlay the sport that uses the field most, then paint the rest. The trick to keeping it readable is a color order. Give the primary sport white, give the second sport one strong contrast color, and stop there. Three or four full sets of lines on one field is where it turns into a mess players cannot read at speed.
