We start by reading the yard: the space you can give the green, where you want the cups, and how the water drains off your clay. Then we excavate, build and compact a double aggregate base graded to move a Gulf downpour, and shape the breaks and tiers into that base. The putting turf is seamed to the edges, the cups are cut, and silica sand is brushed in to set the speed. The finished green stays true and playable year round, with no mowing, no watering, and no brown patch in August.
What Can I Expect From Backyard Putting Greens in Houston?
Yes, within reason. Roll speed comes from the pile and the sand infill, not luck. We use a short, dense putting pile and brush in silica sand to the depth that sets the pace you want, from a slower practice green to a quick one that reads like a well-kept course. We roll and test it before we call it finished, so the ball tracks true instead of wandering off line.
Most home greens run from about 300 to 800 square feet, though we have built both smaller corner greens and larger ones. The space you can give it sets the number of cups and the length of the putts. We lay out breaks, undulations, and a fringe to suit the yard, then cut in as many holes as the shape allows so you can practice more than one line.
Bentgrass is a cool-season grass and Houston summers cook it. Keeping a real green alive here means constant water, fungicide, mowing, and rebuilding, and it still thins out in the heat. A synthetic green skips all of that. It stays true and playable through August humidity and any watering restriction, with no dormancy in winter and no brown patch, so you practice year round.
That is most of what we do. A green rarely sits alone in a Houston yard. We tie it into the pool deck, patio, or existing beds with a fringe collar and a chipping pad, and match the grade so there is no lip at the edges. The goal is a green that looks like it was always part of the yard, not a mat dropped on top of it.

From Start to Finish.
Our proven installation process ensures every project is completed efficiently with exceptional attention to detail.
We strip the existing lawn and excavate down to a clean, stable sub-grade. Old roots, thatch, and loose topsoil all come out, because anything organic left behind will settle later and telegraph through the finished turf.
Flexible poly board is staked around the entire perimeter to lock the base in place. It holds your shape through curves and radii, keeps the aggregate from migrating into beds, and gives the turf a clean edge to be fastened to.
The first base layer goes down and is graded for drainage. This is the load-bearing course that carries foot traffic and keeps the surface from rutting, and it is where the finished contours of the yard are established.
A second, finer layer is screeded over the first to true the surface. Two layers instead of one is what separates a lawn that stays flat for years from one that dips and waves after the first wet season.
The base is plate-compacted to spec, then the turf is rolled out, allowed to relax, and cut to the yard. Seams are aligned to a single blade direction and joined so they disappear, and the turf is nailed off along every edge.
Silica infill is spread and worked in with a power broom, lifting every blade upright as it goes. Infill is what gives the lawn its ballast, its underfoot feel, and its ability to stand back up after traffic.
We do a final groom, clear the site, and walk the finished yard with you edge to edge. What you are left with is a lawn that looks cut every day of the year, with no mowing, watering, or seasonal brown-out.
