Memorial

The bocce court is the centrepiece here: a long, flat, hard-edged lane in short-pile turf, set into a planted garden with a swing at one end. The rest of the Memorial work is family yard — an open lawn with a trampoline on it, a stepping-stone path through planting, and a broad shaded lawn running to a stone walk.

A bocce lane is a levelling exercise more than a turf one. The base has to be flat enough that a ball tracks true down the full length, which means screeding and compacting in layers rather than grading once. The lawns around it are built to the same standard, just without the tolerance — which is why the trampolines sit flush into the surface with no dead ring around them, and why the paver-and-turf decks either side of the pools have stayed square.
