This is an evening yard: a sunken stone fire pit, low seat walls, festoon lighting strung overhead and turf across the whole floor of the space. It is the kind of area that gets used hardest in the months when a natural lawn is least able to take it.

Turf around a fire feature has to be set back and detailed properly. The surface is anchored to the stone surround with a clean cut line, and the base beneath it drains so the terrace is usable the morning after rain rather than three days later.
