A narrow backyard laid in artificial turf beside a stained concrete deck and a planted border

Bellaire

The narrow yard that never grew grass, finally usable.

Project Overview

A Narrow Yard
Made Usable in Bellaire

This is the classic Bellaire problem: a long, narrow strip of yard boxed in by a fence on one side and the house on the other, shaded most of the day, with a stained concrete deck taking up part of it. Natural grass in a space like this is thin at best and bare at worst.

Laid wall to wall in turf, the strip becomes usable floor rather than a maintenance liability. The run is anchored along the fence line and cut flush to the deck slab, and the base is graded to fall away from the house so a narrow yard between two hard surfaces still drains.
