This is public wet-play ground: a municipal splash pad with turf running up to the pad edge and out to the shaded seating and picnic areas. It is used all day, every day of the season, by children moving constantly between water and grass.

A splash pad surround has to shed water as fast as the pad throws it and stay firm underfoot while soaking wet. The base is an open aggregate on a graded fall, the turf backing is perforated throughout, and the perimeter is anchored into the pad edge so there is no trip lip where bare feet cross it.
