A backyard with a flagstone path and fire pit set into an artificial turf lawn

Heights

Small Heights lots, used all the way to the edges.

Project Overview

Backyard Lawns and
Street Verges in The Heights

Heights lots are narrow and the outdoor space is precious, so these installations use all of it: a back garden with a flagstone path and fire pit set into turf, a rear lawn running fence to fence, and out front the awkward strips — the verge between sidewalk and street, the ground under the street tree, the run along the driveway.

The street-side work is the fussiest. Those strips are cut around tree trunks, kerbs and driveway aprons, and they get walked on constantly, so the perimeter has to be anchored into the concrete edge rather than just pinned into soil. Done properly the turf finishes dead flush with the sidewalk, which is what the close-up edge shots here show.
