Spring Valley

A kidney-shaped pool with a covered cabana at one end, and turf wrapping the whole thing from the house round to the fence line. The lawn is cut to the pool's curve rather than squared off around it, so the shape of the water carries into the garden.

Freeform edges are cut on site in one continuous pass — every join in a curve is a place it can go wrong. The turf is anchored to the coping the whole way round, and the base falls away from the pool so splash-out drains rather than working its way back under the surface.
