A three-hole practice green with red, white and blue flags, built into a walled raised terrace

Lake Houston

A green built up into a terrace on falling ground.

Project Overview

A Raised Three-Hole
Green at Lake Houston

A practice green with three cups, built into a terrace held by a block retaining wall with a paver band along the front and iron fencing beyond. The site falls away, so the green is built up rather than cut in.

Building a green on made ground is the harder version of the job, because everything under it has to be compacted in layers or the surface settles unevenly and the ball stops running true. Once the platform is right, the putting turf and its fringe go down as they would anywhere — cups cut in flush, fringe seamed around the edge.
