River Oaks

The River Oaks work is formal and symmetrical: a fountain set on a chequerboard stone apron with a clipped turf lawn around it, a modern terrace with stone treads set into grass and outdoor seating, and a long garden walk with turf joints running between deep flower borders.

Formal gardens are unforgiving because every line is straight and every one is visible. The turf is set out to those lines rather than trimmed to them afterwards, seamed so the joins fall where the eye does not travel, and anchored at each stone edge. The pile runs in a single direction throughout so a symmetrical layout actually reads symmetrical.
