Professional Artificial
Turf Installation in Hempstead, TX

Hempstead is farming country, not a subdivision. Lots run big, many properties are on a well and a septic system, and the ground changes from river bottom to sandy prairie.

Turf for
Hempstead Acreage and Country Lots

Hempstead is the Waller County seat, about fifty miles northwest of Houston at the junction of US 290 and State Highways 6 and 159. It was once the largest shipper of watermelons in the country, and the county economy still runs on farming, cattle and forest products. That is a very different setting from a Houston subdivision, and we treat it that way.

We drive out from Houston, so we plan a Hempstead job as a single trip rather than a series of short visits. You get one free on-site visit where we measure, check how the land falls and note where your well and septic sit, then a fixed written quote before any work begins.

Brazos Bottom, Sandy Prairie, and No City Utilities

Waller County soils are not one thing. They run from fertile alluvial soil in the Brazos river bottoms, along the county’s western boundary, to sandy loam across the prairie, with black waxy clay in a small southern area. Those behave completely differently under a lawn. Bottomland holds water for days; sandy loam drops it fast and dries out hard. We test what is actually under your grass rather than assuming Houston clay.

The other difference out here is utilities. Many Hempstead properties run on a private water well and an on-site sewage facility rather than city services. Waller County’s Environmental Division is the TCEQ authorized agent for septic permits countywide, and a septic design starts with a soil analysis by a licensed engineer or registered sanitarian. None of that stops a turf install, but the drain field is not somewhere we excavate.

  • Well water is not free water

A well costs you in pump runtime and equipment wear rather than a city bill. Taking irrigation off the yard is worth real money when you are pumping your own water.

  • We work around the septic field

Drain fields, spray heads and lateral lines cannot be covered or driven over. We locate them at the site visit and keep excavation and base work clear of the whole area.

  • Two soils, one property

A single Hempstead tract can sit on bottomland clay at one end and sandy prairie at the other. We check the fall and the soil across the yard, not at one spot.

Every install is built on a compacted, graded base with drainage set before the turf goes down, then finished with secured seams and edging.

FAQ

Frequently asked,
clearly answered.

Do I need a Waller County permit for landscaping work in Hempstead?

For turf alone, usually not, but the county is the office to ask rather than a city hall. Waller County Road and Bridge issues building and development permits, and the Environmental Division handles on-site sewage facilities for the whole county. Anything touching your septic system, or grading that changes how water leaves the property, is worth a call before we start.

Will artificial turf work on Brazos bottomland soil?

It works, and the base does the work. Bottomland alluvium along the Brazos is fertile and slow draining, so water sits in it. We excavate that layer out under the turf area, compact a graded aggregate base in its place, and set a route for water to leave. What sits under the turf is our material, not the river soil, so the ground below stops deciding the outcome.

How much of a large Hempstead property should be turfed?

Almost never all of it, and we will say so at the visit. On acreage the useful areas are the ones near the house: a yard the dogs and kids actually use, an entry, a patio surround, sometimes a putting green. Pasture and open ground are better left alone. Turfing the used areas gives you the benefit without pricing the project on total acres.

How long does an installation take?

Most residential projects are complete in 2–4 days. Larger commercial installs typically take 1–2 weeks.

What is included in your warranty?

Every install carries the manufacturer's product warranty against fading and wear, plus our own workmanship coverage on seams, edging, and base. Full terms come with your proposal.

Is artificial turf safe for pets and children?

Yes. We install lead-free, non-toxic turf over a permeable base that drains quickly, and we can add an antimicrobial infill for pet areas to keep odours down.

How much maintenance does artificial turf need?

A rinse now and then and an occasional cross-brush of the high-traffic paths. No mowing, no watering, no fertiliser, and no seasonal brown-out.

Will the turf get too hot in the Houston sun?

Turf runs warmer than a natural lawn in direct sun. We specify cooler yarn and lighter infill where a yard gets full afternoon exposure, and a quick rinse brings the surface temperature straight back down.

How much does an artificial turf installation cost?

Pricing depends on square footage, the turf you choose, and how much prep the site needs. We measure on site and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.
