Small Waterfront Lots,
Kemah Sized Right
Kemah is small and surrounded by water. The city covers just under two square miles in the northeastern corner of Galveston County, and the 2020 census counted 1,807 residents. Clear Creek Channel and the west shore of Galveston Bay set the edges. Much of the housing sits on canals, on marina frontage, or a short walk from the 60-acre Boardwalk.
Small lots change the job. There is rarely room for a mower to work between a bulkhead, a dock, and a house, and rarely enough open ground to justify irrigation. Your first visit is free. We measure the space, check where it drains, and the written quote is fixed before work starts. More than 30 years of Greater Houston installs backs it.

Two Square Miles With Water on Three Sides
Ike is still the reference point here. In 2008 the surge caused roughly $200 million in damage across Kemah, affecting 737 homes and taking out the ground floor of the Boardwalk's largest restaurant. A rule requiring anything damaged past half its value to be rebuilt to code meant a lot of Kemah came back higher than it was. Flood zones in Kemah change from parcel to parcel, so two neighbors on the same street can face different rules. The city sends residents to the regional flood map to look up their own address, and we check yours before planning any grading.
Water arrives two ways at once. Surge pushes in off Galveston Bay while heavy rain fills Clear Creek Channel from the other direction. On a canal lot the yard is a narrow strip between a house and a bulkhead, so where that strip sends water matters a great deal. We set the fall away from the foundation and toward the outlet the lot already uses, then compact a graded base with drainage in it before any turf is laid.
Narrow runs beside a bulkhead
A canal lot leaves a thin strip of ground a mower barely fits into. Turf gives that strip a finished, even surface, with no clippings blowing into the water.
Ground that lives wet
This is one of the largest boating centers in the country, and yards here take wet feet, gear, and coolers all year. Sod wears to mud on that path. Turf does not.
Two flood zones, one street
Flood zones in Kemah change from parcel to parcel, so the rules on your lot may not match your neighbor's. The city sends residents to the regional flood map to look up their own address, and we confirm yours before planning any grading.

Frequently asked,
clearly answered.
My Kemah lot is tiny. Is turf worth doing on that little ground?
Small yards are often where it pays off fastest. In a waterfront town packed into under two square miles, the usable green space on a lot might be a courtyard or a strip beside a dock, and keeping sod alive there costs the same effort as a full lawn for a fraction of the result. A small area also means a short install with less disruption.
Can turf go on a canal or bulkhead lot?
Usually yes, and the bulkhead sets the plan. We keep the base and the edging clear of the wall, set the fall so runoff goes to the outlet your lot already uses rather than over the cap, and secure the perimeter so water moving across the strip cannot lift an edge. We look at the bulkhead condition on the free visit before quoting.
Do Kemah's flood rules affect a yard project?
They can, and it depends on your parcel. Kemah publishes flood protection information and its properties fall in several different FEMA zones, with a substantial improvement rule that governs rebuilding. A flat, at-grade turf replacement is a different scope from filling or regrading a lot. Call the city with your address before you plan anything that changes site levels.
How long does an installation take?
Most residential projects are complete in 2–4 days. Larger commercial installs typically take 1–2 weeks.
What is included in your warranty?
Every install carries the manufacturer's product warranty against fading and wear, plus our own workmanship coverage on seams, edging, and base. Full terms come with your proposal.
Is artificial turf safe for pets and children?
Yes. We install lead-free, non-toxic turf over a permeable base that drains quickly, and we can add an antimicrobial infill for pet areas to keep odours down.
How much maintenance does artificial turf need?
A rinse now and then and an occasional cross-brush of the high-traffic paths. No mowing, no watering, no fertiliser, and no seasonal brown-out.
Will the turf get too hot in the Houston sun?
Turf runs warmer than a natural lawn in direct sun. We specify cooler yarn and lighter infill where a yard gets full afternoon exposure, and a quick rinse brings the surface temperature straight back down.
How much does an artificial turf installation cost?
Pricing depends on square footage, the turf you choose, and how much prep the site needs. We measure on site and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.
